Biography
I value honesty, kindness and individuality. I believe that we all have a right to our own way of doing things. I believe very strongly that we all have the power within ourselves to live the best lives we can. I’m not a fixer, I don’t have all the answers. My aim is to help you with whatever you bring into the room. With an open mind and the skills I have available hopefully I’ll be able to help you move forward in your life to a happier place. As a counsellor I work from a person centred stance and believe in the three core values of unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence. I translate this as being non-judgemental, trying to understand the client’s point of view as best I can and by being a genuine person. Secondly I am a pluralistic counsellor in that I believe that different modalities help different people and that we are complex and individual so that no one modality will fit all people and their issues. With this in mind I use a range of methods to try to help each client. This means being open to constant research and reading to find the best fit for each client. This suits my personality very well as I’m committed to ongoing personal and professional development. I grew up in Scotland and have lived in Aotearoa/NZ for 19 years. I have two grown children who live abroad and I have a Masters in Counselling from Massey University.
