I am a compassionate, empathic, gentle, encouraging and supportive counsellor. I believe that a collaborative, safe and respectful therapeutic relationship enhances emotion regulation and promotes self-awareness and resilience. I work in private practice and also provide counselling to EAP clients. I have clinical experience as a senior counselling practitioner and educator in primary, middle and secondary schools and specialise in working with children, young people and their parents/whanau. I also have extensive experience working with adults in a diverse range of settings, including private practice and agencies. I graduated with a Master of Counselling (First Class Honours) from the University of Waikato in 2013. Prior to this, I worked for eight years as a High School teacher. I also have a Post Graduate Certificate (Professional Supervision) from Wintec and offer professional supervision services to counsellors and other health practitioners, either face-to-face or by Skype. I'm a Fulbright scholar and my work is based on the principles of friendship, collaboration, peace, kindness, compassion, and social justice. Counselling is an opportunity to have a conversation that invites care, reflection, respect and new learnings about the self and the potential to create new beginnings for a person's life. I work collaboratively through valuing the client's agency, knowledge and resources. The focus of the work is discovering with the client that which supports and sustains them. I work with clients to identify, reflect upon, and achieve the hopes and goals that are important to them in their life and relationships. Along with face-to-face therapy Monday-Thursday, I also offer phone, Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp and Google Hangouts sessions on Thursday afternoons and Fridays.
